  • Kari: Wait a second. You don't actually have any proof.
  • Nat: Nope, but I mean, that makes sense when you think about it! The records would be destroyed to ensure the illusion stood, right?
And only the small crew of the Drive ship knew what was going on, and they knew what was riding on their silence.
  • Kari: Right. And the Fillipods who helped convinced the Tesskans it was real wouldn't talk either. They were the ones who wanted this peace.
  • Nat: Exactly.
  • Kari: So what happened to the ship?
  • Nat: Nobody knows for sure. If it is around, it's probably managed La Familia style: One family knowing the secret, all living on board, protecting it and the galactic peace.
  • Kari: So if I can summarize: You've told me a story that, by its very nature, would be impossible to prove, and therefore impossible for me to report on.
  • Kari: And, if by some insane chance I actually wrote it up, it'd be published with some crank title like "The Janitor and The Scientist: How a Secret Veetan Superweapon Won a War, Saved a Galaxy... and Doomed It's Creators to Obscurity."
  • Nat: "Planet Invisible: The Weapon That History... Forgot?!"
  • Kari: "Space Time: One Weird Trick Discovered by a Local Kid and Also a Local Reporter That Will completely Blow Your Mind and Destabilize Galactic Peace."
  • Nat: "The Veetan's Secret Sauce..r!"
  • [Kari and Nat look at each other]
  • Kari: You're a great kid, Nat. I like you. And I appreciate the company, but I should really get back to work.
  • Nat: I like you too! I like nice people. Are you gonna write up my story?
  • Kari: Haha, nooooo way. I mean, I'd like to uncover the real story someday, but for some reason I get the feeling it won't be by hanging out woth a kid at the top of the war memorial while eating tasty sammiches.
  • Kari: But you know what? I'm glad I did today.
  • Nat: Yay! Friendship!
