Let’s say you notice that the latest page of the comic is missing from the wiki, and you want to create it. Where to start? First, naturally, you have to begin the page creation process. The easiest way to do this is to go to the [[Last Page|most current page]], then the red link on the navbar pointing to the next page. This will open the page creation form. Note that you can only create pages on this wiki if you have an account ([[Special:CreateAccount|Sign up here!).

This wiki, in addition to documenting and explaining aspects of the DRIVE universe, also has a page dedicated to each page of the comic, complete with a transcript, trivia, and relevant categories, thanks to the diligence of our editors. Since DRIVE is a currently-running webcomic, we regularly update the wiki to feature new pages. However, despite our best efforts, sometimes we make mistakes (we've even missed pages on some occasions!), and sometimes we don't have the time or patience to create the entire page. Fortunately, this is a wiki! Wikis are all about collaborative editing. As such, here is a guide to creating the wiki page for a comic page on this wiki:

Before we begin...

Know that you don't have to create the entire page all by yourself. While this is encouraged, it is not necessary. However, if you start on a page or work on a page but don't complete it (a complete page being one that has all the necessary navbars, the comic page itself, a transcript, trivia, and all the necessary categories), please mark it as incomplete. Do this by using Template:Incomplete:
{{Incomplete|remaining tasks to complete}}
Place it below the copyright template, above the header for the Trivia section. This will let other editors know that there is still work to be done on the page. Also, even though you don’t have to create the entire page by yourself, if you do choose to create a page, try to be courteous and organize it well. For example, making sure the navbars, page source for the copyright notice, and comic image source are correct is very important, even if you’re not going to add the transcript, trivia, and all the categories the page in question might need.

Getting Started

Let’s say you notice that the latest page of the comic is missing from the wiki, and you want to create it. Where to start? First, naturally, you have to begin the page creation process. The easiest way to do this is to go to the most current page, then the red link on the navbar pointing to the next page. This will open the page creation form. Note that you can only create pages on this wiki if you have an account (Sign up here!).

Next, the content. Each comic wiki page is structured as such:

  • Navbar(s)
  • Copyright template
    • Comic page
    • Transcript
  • Trivia
  • References (usually none)
  • Categories (these tend to be placed in a specific order)

If this feels overwhelming, remember: you don't have to create the entire page all by yourself. The easiest way to start is usually by copying the source text of the previous page and pasting it into the page creation form, then editing it to suit the needs of the current page.

Navbars

Depending on the type of page, the navbar should be different. If it’s a regular, main story, comic page, it should have the Main Plot and Chronological Plot navbars. If it’s what we deem to be an extra page (for example: maps, posters, and Enciclopedia Xenobiológica articles), it should not have the Chronological Plot navbar, but it should have the Main Plot navbar. If it is a Tales of the Drive story, it should only have the navbar for its own tale. It is vital that the navbars be correct when you create a page.

Copyright Template

DRIVE is a copyrighted work, which we are allowed to display on the wiki with permission from the author. As such, we use this template to contain the comic page and the transcript, which are both considered the work of the author. The template has the following parts: {{copyright/start|link to original source}}
{{copyright/end}}
The comic page and transcript are contained between the start and end templates. Adding the comic page is a simple matter of copying and pasting the image source from the website. To do this, simply go to the source on [1], right click on the image of the comic page, then click “Copy image address”. After that, you can paste it into the wiki editor, right below the copyright start template.

Transcript

Below the comic page itself is the transcript. The transcript is collapsed by default (using template:collapsed) so as not to clutter the page for viewers. The transcript allows for easy searching of comic pages to find specific text or dialogue via the wiki. It could also potentially be helpful to vision-impaired users with text-to-speech software. The transcript follows a specific style, demonstrated below:

*'''Taneel:''' Whatcha workin' on, Nosh?
*'''Nosh:''' Well, as science officer, is my job to keep up with '''''all types''''' of sciencing.
*'''Nosh:''' And right now, I am researching lung capacity of common Earth-wolf.
*'''Taneel:''' Good lord... Why?
*'''Nosh:''' Pique of my interest, mostly. I read in Earth story how wolf able to bring down house with massive lung capacity....
*[Taneel stares into void in sudden realisation]
*'''Taneel:''' ... Did the aforementioned wolf happen to "huff and puff" before he blew said house down?
*'''Nosh:''' Yes! Amazing creature, no?<br />... I research pig construction techniques, next.

This translates to:

There are some common style preferences that we prefer in transcripts, which you will likely pick up on as you edit. What is demonstrated above contains the most common and important elements. And remember, as Wikipedians say, be bold! Don’t be afraid of getting something wrong when you’re transcribing. The beauty of wikis is that someone can always come along and fix or improve it.

Trivia

The trivia section does not need to be complete when you’re first creating a page. Trivia usually includes the following: the name of the page (from mouseover text of the image on the site), anything notable or interesting that may not be obvious (such as the last time we saw a character or piece of technology that has returned), and, if Dave promotes his Patreon or a Kickstarter on the comic page, a link.

References

There are usually no references, but this header is included. If any <ref> tags are used in the trivia, please add a <references /> tag under this header.

Categories

Categories are ways to group the pages on the wiki. Categories Are Always Capitalized. All comic pages will have Category:Comic Pages. All non-Tales of the Drive pages will have Category:Main Plot. All Tales of the Drive pages will have the category for their plot (for example, Category:A Little Time). Categories are placed in the order of Meta (such as and Category:Main Plot), Places (such as Category:Machito and Category:Circle's End, Species (such as Category:Human and Category:Veetan, Characters (such as Category:Nosh and Category:Tres Primos, and Special (such as Category:Holograms). Again, don’t be intimidated. You don’t have to get all the categories perfectly the first time. If you’re missing some, that’s okay, it will be fixed. Please try to at least get the basic Meta categories in place.

After the Page

Once you've completed the page, there are usually some more things to do. For example, if a page is the latest in the main plot, updating the Last Page redirect is a good idea. If important information is revealed, you can update relevant wiki pages. For example, if it turned out that Nosh had a twin brother called Bosh,[1] it would be helpful to add that information to the page about Nosh, and perhaps even to create a page about Bosh.
