Beginning of the comic
Earth and its colonies are in a severe depression, with 7 billion unemployed
Conrado Cruz discovers the Rogue Spirit Ship, which has a Ring Drive
2273-
Humans make their first alien contact with the Veetans[2]

An Imperial scout ship (the Candela) drifts into Vinn-occupied space and gets boarded by the Vinn. All of the crew gets infected. War ensues.
