"Artwork"?^^
Thanks for your contributions! I'll have a look.

Adding images to articles

How would I go about adding an image to a species article? For characters, you can just use the template, but I don't think we have any precedent for species. Thoughts? Sensorfire (talk) 09:12, 25 October 2017 (PDT)

See this and this for reference. Adding a species template!
Boom! Template:Species

BlockAndNuke

How do you use Special:BlockAndNuke? I would, but it worries me that everything on that page is checked by default. I looked at the MediaWiki page, but I still don't really get it.

Also, is there any way for us to change the whitelist? Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 10:54, 7 December 2017 (PST)

Right. Yes. That would block every single user. What I do is, I tick off the first one, scroll all the way to the bottom, press shift and tick off the last one. This unchecks all checkboxes, like you would mark multiple files with the shift key+click on your computer file system. Next, I usually open all spam users in a new tab, copy the names and Ctrl+F through Blockandnuke and check the respective checkbox. Next, click "Block Users". Then, click "Block and Nuke". And then, and I don't know why, but it doesn't actually do it yet, so reload the page and your browser should tell you that you filled out a form etc., so you select "Resend" in Firefox or "Continue" in Chrome to resend the form request. If necessary, refresh again until you see "Nothing to do!" as a message.
I've written MC, we'll have to see if he can fix things for us.

The new account situation

Obviously, it's problematic that new user accounts can't be created right now- this is a wiki, after all. Though we don't get much in terms of new users in general, it would be unpleasant if a prospective new editor couldn't sign up at all for an extended period of time. For this reason it is of vital importance that something be done to remedy the situation. Now, I'm surely preaching to the choir when I say that, but I would like to know what can (and should) be done. --Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 03:13, 24 March 2018 (PDT)

You're absolutely right. I contacted the admin again.
There is a kind of solution, but it's not perfect: Special:CreateAccount is still functional for us (we don't have Captchas in our forms), which means we could create an account for someone else. We could set up a link to a contact form so people can request an account via proxy. Huge caveat: Changing the password is currently broken as well. Sh...ucks. This means two things for this plan: 1) We can't "Use a temporary random password and send it to the specified email address", because that means the new account can't be used without changing the password, which is impossible. 2) The only other option is to set everything up ourselves, including the password, which can't be changed; new users would have to be comfortable with one of us knowing the password to their Wiki account, which can't be changed.

At least the new account via proxy seems to work. SockSamys (talk) 13:49, 28 March 2018 (PDT)

Good news! Account creation is now possible thanks to a new Captcha!
Ret Samys - Jinyiwei (talk) 02:05, 29 March 2018 (PDT)

More good news! Changing the password also works now.

Massive page move

Hey, I see you're doing a massive page move as I type this- can I ask what's going on? --Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 14:14, 14 April 2018 (PDT)

I'm panicking because there's a page missing between 159 and 160. Sorry about the confusion! I should have left comments.
Ret Samys - Jinyiwei (talk) 14:15, 14 April 2018 (PDT)
Oh no! I'll go in later and fix the links if necessary.
--Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 14:21, 14 April 2018 (PDT)
That's nice of you. I'm moving the pages and then go to bed, tomorrow I wanted to go through and fix the links. If you do anything, just tell me what you do afterwards or what system you used. You don't need to do anything, this is entirely my fault.
Ret Samys - Jinyiwei (talk) 14:24, 14 April 2018 (PDT)
Progress report (largely for own reference): navigation fixed up to Page 0215, links in non-comic articles fixed, links in comic articles fixed up to Page 0215. To do: fix navigation and fix trivia links (trivia links might already be fixed, don't forget to check), starting in Page 0216. Continuing tomorrow.
Ret Samys - Jinyiwei (talk) 16:46, 14 April 2018 (PDT)
Also to do: Roll back fixes to Talk pages, these should not be altered. Exception: Template:Familia_Tree#Explaining_the_family_tree
Ret Samys - Jinyiwei (talk) 16:49, 14 April 2018 (PDT)
I have begun fixing links past Page 0215.
--Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 18:13, 14 April 2018 (PDT)
Finished! All the pages up to Page 0293 (the latest) should be fixed. There may be a couple of links that could have slipped through the cracks, and obviously we have work ahead of us to fix links and references on other pages, but that's the bulk of it.
--Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 21:59, 14 April 2018 (PDT)
Oh wow, thanks!

I am so glad we aren't on Wikia

I have recently been working on a Wiki project that's hosted on Wikia, and it is hell. I hate it. Wikia forces everyone to use their Oasis skin, and everything feels very off. They try to make everything so shiny but it loses the wiki feel. There's also the advertisements and other questionable things they do. I know this is kind of a pointless rant, but just... ugh. I am so glad this wiki is independently hosted.
--Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 20:55, 15 June 2018 (PDT)

Ahaha, you and me both! Fortunately, I only know Wikia from a reader perspective, but I've always disliked the design.
Ret Samys - Jinyiwei (talk) 04:00, 18 June 2018 (PDT)

hey

If you plan to make the next page, I already started. User:Sensorfire/Page 0313--Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 12:23, 13 September 2018 (PDT)

Perfect, thanks!
I was a bit rushed, or else I would have completed the whole thing. As it was, I barely had time to save it in my userspace.

Effort to increase activity

One thing I've noticed that might hinder new activity on the wiki is the fact that creating a new wiki page for a comic page can be complicated. That's why I made Project:Comic Pages and Template:Incomplete. Maybe we can also promote joining the wiki and helping to create and edit pages in the Disqus comments on the site. Tell me what you think!
--Sensorfire - Jinyiwei (talk | contribs) 03:15, 7 October 2018 (PDT)

Funnily enough, I haven't been active here.^^ Now that I figured out I had an issue with my mails, I should be back! Picking up what is left to do tomorrow.
It's a very good idea! And HOLY COW, you did a lot of work!
Ret Samys - Jinyiwei (talk) 07:28, 7 October 2018 (PDT)
Yeah, I was worried you were gone. That was partially why I did this. Good to see you back, though.
