Fernando "'Nando" (Cruz?) (2387-) is the current [[Machito]] chief engineer. He is a member of [[La Familia]] - grandson to the previous Emperor, [[Manuel Jose Cruz]], and nephew to the current [[Emperor Cruz]]. It is implied on [[Page 0105]] and [[Page 0127]] that he is the true heir to the throne, and on the latter it is implied that his father, ostensibly a traitor, was killed to make way for the current Emperor.
He is 14. He served on the [[Sevillana]] for about a year, before [[Captain Taneel]] was relieved of command, after which he began serving on the Machito.

Ships can thereby travel faster than light and remain matter and not be affected by special relativity.

The Ring Drive has been invented by the [[The Continuum Of Makers|Makers]], who maintained monopoly over the technology until 2258, when [[Conrado Cruz]] discovers a crash-landed ship with said technology, reverse-engineers it and starts a monopoly on its own, creating the [[Second Spanish Empire|second Spanish Empire]].

Is unknown. Unless you are a [[Fillipod]] or a [[The Continuum Of Makers|Maker]]. No-one else, not even one member of [[La Familia]] has any clue how it actually works - but only very few people know ''that''.<ref>[[Page 5]]</ref>

The comic gives some clues about the physics, making it sound like a working Alcubierre warp drive (however, [[Dave Kellett]] has revealed that the physics are different in some important ways<ref>[http://www.drivecomic.com/news/1369.html Blog entry]</ref>):
*The ship itself seems to move slowly.<ref>[[Page 3]]</ref>
*Localized space is pinched around the ship, then the ship is presumably driven through folds of space.
*Moebius-class Maker ships can pinch "more than localised space" with double Rings, making them even faster.<ref>[[Page 0022]]</ref>
However, the Alcubierre warp drive does not
*need to create a naked singularity like the Ring Drive does with Spirit's End
